My mother attended the memory clinic at Leith Treatment Centre, Edinburgh for the results of the assessment she had had a month ago. The doctor she saw so was rude, unfeeling and tactless it left us both speechless.
I felt that the doctor treated my mother like a piece of dirt on the bottom of their shoe and bluntly told her she had dementia, it would get worse and she had better think about a power of attorney - then bluntly said - "Are you suicidal? "
There was no tact, no care, no respect at all for our feelings shown - in fact I don't think the doctor showed her any respect at all and appeared very obviously not to care and let us know that. My pets get treated better by their vet.
The doctor then asked to speak to me on my own and was extremely rude to me.
We both left in tears - not because of the news - my mother only has a very early dementia which we all knew - but that we had been treated so brutally by this doctor.
I would like to add that the rest of the staff we have met at this clinic have been lovely, caring people - a good team let down very, very badly but this uncaring, heartless doctor.
