My 12 week old daughter was admitted via A&E straight to ward 3b as an arranged emergency admission with the ENT team.
Firstly I’d like to say how impressed I was with the swift care in A&E and how organised it was. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly, kind and efficient and I was incredibly impressed.
The care we received in 3b though was outstanding. From the moment we arrived on the ward we were made to feel welcomed and well cared for. Special thank you to HCSW Anne for settling us in and explaining everything to us. She was so lovely and understanding especially when it all got too much for me and broke down in tears.
I would also like to thank ENT surgeon, Mr Ellis and his incredible team. I was utterly blown away by the attention we received first thing on the ward round. They knew all about us, they were ready to put the camera down there and then and straight away made a plan and proceeded quickly. Mr Ellis is an incredible surgeon. Working for the NHS myself, I have worked alongside many surgeons in the past and I was blown away with his caring bed side manner. He explained everything so clearly, he took the time to come back and explain again in more detail and answer my questions and kept me up to date with timings throughout. He phoned me straight after the surgery to update me and spent a considerable amount of time with us in recovery when we were having complications. He obviously really cares for his patients and provided incredible patient and family centred care not to mention efficient and affective care which is so important given the pressures on the NHS. I can not praise Mr Ellis and his team enough. I would also like to thank all the anaesthetic team members who were also incredible and treated me and my daughter with the greatest care possible. I would also like to mention James who cared for us in recovery. He was skilled, knowledgable, kind and very personable and was a great support and reassurance when we were having some post op difficulties.
I would like to thank SN Jay on ward 3b who looked after us so well. She was kind, efficient, caring and a credit to the ward. As was Zoe who looked after us on the night shifts. Every single member of staff we came across, whether it was someone just passing by and fixing an alarm or providing direct care to us were incredible. The student nurses should also get a mention. I was blown away by the care they delivered whilst still being students and were clearly very much part of the team - a credit to the staff nurses who were over seeing them.
I can only imagine how hard it is working in paediatrics, dealing with poorly children and at times demanding and difficult parents and I take my hat off to every one of you.
Thank you to you all.
