I was due my 3rd baby & a consultant was adamant because of my BMI I should be induced on my due date even though previous deliveries/pregnancies were smooth & uncomplicated & I had a similar BMI. I had reminded them that I had went over my due date by almost 2 weeks with both previously.
I agreed to begin induction at 41weeks & it felt like it was all down hill from there, I wish in hindsight I had held out a bit longer. Lately it seems like every pregnant lady I have known has been booked for induction.
I was brought in to be induced and left in labour ward for 24hrs before induction could actually begin, I had been told it was at capacity and not safe to deliver which was a bit worrying.
The midwife I had to start my induction came across as in a rush to just get it done, they wanted to attach a clip to monitor baby but when the consultant wants sure if he had got it on & had to leave for an emergency the midwife moved it & I felt my waters go. Shortly after I began bleeding, I was examined by the consultant who discovered baby was breech meaning emergency section.
It was shift change time before we headed to theatre so I got a new midwife who was very nice and reassuring, I wish I could remember her name as she was lovely.
The full team I had for my section were amazing and so reassuring. They answered all of my questions before going to theatre. The anaesthetist allowed my partner to be in the room while my spinal took place which relaxed me a bit more too.
Theatre was so calm and nothing like how I expected it to be even with my baby now becoming transverse and it not being so straightforward.
As someone who is needle phobic and uncomfortable with hospitals I was surprised at how relaxed I felt during this procedure.
So I just wanted to thank everyone involved in theatre who made such a surprising and difficult event much more comfortable.
