My father was transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in March from Dr Gray's Hospital, Elgin for surgery, which I must say he came through no problem, but instead of being transferred back, he was in Aberdeen hospital for almost 3 weeks.
Due to covid my mother was not able to travel to see him but once as the journey was about 2 and half hours (she ended up with covid not sure if that was from the bus or from the ward) as he tested positive as well.
I was calling every day from Australia to hear any updates but they kept saying they wanted him to get back to his physical health pre hospital. No one asked what that was and how my mother managed to care for him at home, as he was 91 years old.
She asked for him to be sent home and they sent him home the day after his 92nd birthday in an ambulance...he arrived home in the evening after this he passed away 1 hr later. Not only that but his toiletries and slippers where left behind in the hospital.
My mother is still very angry and I never got to say farewell until the funeral, I had not seen my father for over 4 years.
I feel let down by the Scottish health service which I worked in for over 20 years myself.
