"Poor follow up"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

Cardiology department. I am not receiving my follow up appointments. I spoke to the consultant’s secretary who informed me there was a backlog due to the pandemic of about 6 months. I have rung twice this week leaving messages but it appears there is no one available to take my calls and I have not received a call back. I feel this is rather poor and I still have no idea when my next appointment is.

Dear Sigmasx85,

I am posting this on behalf of the Cardiology Service Manager Dan Smith:

Dear Patient,

Firstly, I would like to apologise that you feel let down by our Cardiology service and very much wish to solve your issue with you.

I have discussed this with our Lead Secretary and going forward, we have ensured telephone coverage is maximised, ensuring patients are able to contact the department without multiple failed attempts.

As your query was regarding an outpatient appointment, I would advise you contact our bookings team on 01271 349149 and they can inform you further on the current consultant waiting lists. I apologise if this has not been made clear to you previously and will ensure this is taken forward in the future to reduce multiple calls.

Unfortunately, outpatient appointments across the board are behind due to the pandemic. However, we are working hard to reduce these and recover from the pandemic, minimising the waiting times for all our Cardiology patients.

If you have any further queries, or wish to speak to me regarding this matter, please contact our PALS team (01271 314090) who can put us in touch and we can discuss further.

Thank you for raising this issue and I apologise again.

Kind Regards

Dan Smith,

Cardiology Service Manager
