In the middle of April, my mother, who is in her mid nineties and suffers from vascular dementia, fell in her care home in EK. She was taken to Wishaw General with a suspected broken hip. We were received into A&E where after all the checks and X-ray that was confirmed. All the staff there were wonderful and very caring and reassuring.
From there we were taken to ward 16. The staff appreciating that, with Mum’s condition, she would be very distressed in a strange environment, welcomed me too and put us in a single room. As it turned out, Mum could not return to the home due to COVID cases and she did require further nursing.I cannot fully find the words to express our thanks to all and every member of a wonderful team of caring staff. I could mention many names as I feel I know everyone so well, between doctors, nurses, support nursing staff, physios, domestic and housekeeping staff and to the chaplain and priest who supported us both emotionally.
I never, at any time, felt in the way, spending 12/14 hours with mum everyday. She had many a difficult day, between delirium, dementia and infection.Thank Goodness, we are hoping to be discharged tomorrow almost a month later back to the care home. I hope she will settle back into a routine and be mobile once again with the follow on care from the community physios.I have nothing but praise for a wonderful team of caring professionals who work together to an end goal for the better of their patients. They work tirelessly, both day and night maintaining a seamless handover. They kept me fully informed at all times and explained everything I enquired about.Thank you to all and everyone we came in contact with. I know if Mum was able to, she would express herself in the same way. This was a very traumatic injury for Mum and I know that with all the patience and care afforded to her, she has the best possible chance to recover.Thank you again team 16. Keep up the good work.
