Seriously concerned and saddened to see my wife in danger of not walking again, or being able to stand to turn without moving and handling equipment and carers rather than with me.
She was admitted due to a hip fracture and on discharge from ward 6, I, as welfare guardian, was not informed of the pressure ulcers which had developed during the admission, and no request was forwarded to community nursing for follow up post discharge.
The nasty ulcers (worst area predicted to be grade 3) have resulted in pain, discomfort and delays to recovery and rehab; 4 weeks post discharge and rehab is yet to commence at home.
I'm appalled and concerned about the communication and lack of care. My wife has mixed dementia, limited opportunities and time is precious. She may never stand to step and turn around or walk again, requiring equipment and carers for all moves. We may never be able to go out for a drive in the car together.
The impact has been significant.
