"This visit has been a disaster"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This visit has been a disaster, a staff member at the nursing station was nothing but nasty, it seemed that asking a question was a bother. I was also confronted in front of everyone in the corridor and told that there was emergencies yet I had seen multiple staff members on their phones.

However the nursing assistant that was on was total opposite. Could not do enough for us, got my dad tea and toast and was so very nice. Made sure everyone was so comfortable. Also one of the doctors on was pleasant and told you all information you need.

We have been waiting since 9pm last night on this corridor and just got told he is being transferred to Craigavon. They said he was getting an ambulance but now are looking for me to take him by my car I do not think that is justifiable as I could have had him there a number of hours earlier.

Overall, not a great experience.

Good morning Shagq75 - thank you for this feedback and sorry for the delay in responding.

We would apologise if any of our staff were nasty or upset you. We are pleased to hear that the nursing assistant and Doctor were helpful and pleasant. That is the standard which all staff should exhibit.

It sounds as if the hospital had run out of admission beds and we had to care for people on trolleys in corridors. This is not an ideal situation. It may be that your father required a specialised bed in Craigavon. A patients suitability to transfer by private transport rather than an ambulance would be a clinical decision advised by the medical team looking after your father. We hope he is recovering.

Best wishes

Paul
