Spent 15 hours in king georges a +e on thursday 5th May with husband who is undergoing palliative chemo with a suspected UTI..Was fast tracked to urgent care but then waited 13 hours to be seen by a doctor. Nurses were useless couldn't even spell esophagus (which is where he has his cancer) had to Google it..she then said take the urine sample over there and pointed..i had to ask where exactly..when we dropped it off the dr said put it in that box..mixed up with at least 30 other samples...had my husband had an infection protocol states IV antibiotics to be given within an hour of arrival..he said wait out there and pointed to the doors we came through so we waitied with about 10 other patients..the nurse came by and said to a colleague have you seen everyone waiting out here its like a party..who told them to wait here (your doctor did) she had a really derogatory manner like we were nothing and they ushered us out like cattle. The same nurse was extremely rude to everyone about an hour later..shouting out its an 8 hour wait in a really abrupt manner (wish I had taken her name). I appreciate they get fed up with everyone asking how long till they are seen but these people are in patient focused jobs and should have a bit more respect. After waiting 12 hours I asked a different nurse again did his chemo fast track card do nothing he said yes usually but it didn't work today 🙄..was then told for 3 hours we will be next when they eventually called us through we were left in an area that was freezing cold (hubbies chemo leaves him sensitive to cold) with a dirty bed. They said we will move you to a warmer area but we didn't want to risk being forgotten about.. was never offered a blanket. The doctor was saw was lovely and sorted us out straight away but it was a shambles up until seeing him. I was advised to go to king georges by the chemo advise line but never again I work for the NHS and have always been proud to do so but last week I saw it at its worst and was ashamed..awful management of the service it was an actual joke why make people wait another 2 hours on top of 12 hours just for a prescription that takes 5 mins to write (I work in nhs pharmacy so know it can be done)..it was an absolute nightmare . We very rarely use emergency services and this experience has left us extremely upset. Lucky husband didn't have an infection and had they told us this sooner we could have just left and made space for someone more deserving and my husband could have got a good night's sleep
"Shambolic and rude staff"
