What I liked
This is in response to a comment made by Carly - 27 April. I am the partner she spoke about and I have just arrived home after my Gall Bladder removal. I support her views but I also have to say that the staff I had contact with were generally very good. The night staff in particular were excellent and helped me through my illness well. I think overall the proffessionalism of the staff was clear to see and the military secondments assist and add to the effciency. I would like to thank the surgeons who carried out an additional procedure for me whilst I was in surgery.
What could be improved
If I had a comment to make about the SAU it would be the noise. This ward can get extremely busy and very noisy indeed - not so good if you have acute pancreatitus!
Unfortunately no amount of commited staff can cover up the poor management and organisation - this includes comments from numerous staff regarding the efficiency and quality of the facilities management.
Finally, the meals are terrible, not just the cheap ingredients used to produce them but the standard of preperation. I would be interested to see what the cost per head / per day spent is. I would be surprised if it was more than £1.00 per day. Perhaps a menu review is required - we are no longer in the 70's! This is in stark contrast to the excellent staff / visitor canteen.
