"I was well looked after"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Coronary Care Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department Daisy Hill Hospital / Male Medical Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I noticed I was experiencing chest pains at home and I called 999. Within about 5 minutes Aidan, one of the paramedics arrived in a rapid response car. He was brilliant, his calm demeanour really set me at ease and he was so professional throughout my interaction with him. I really appreciate everything he did for me and I would like to thank him for how reassuring he was in a stressful experience.

When I arrived in the emergency department I didn’t know what to expect. I was seen very quickly and Dr Ross was absolutely fantastic – she was very kind to me and, along with the nurses, she ensured I was well looked after in the department.

The medical ward I am on could not be nicer. I consider myself to be very lucky to have received such exemplary care. All the staff are very nice and are very professional. There was a young nurse on last night who was very caring, and Anna is incredibly good at her job - she is absolutely wonderful.

On the whole I have had a very positive experience, my only issue is with the visiting. I would like to be able to have family members come in and visit me but I understand that this just isn’t possible with Covid. Fionnuala, the PCE feedback assistant sign posted the virtual visiting service for me and I think I will have a look into this.

Dear Fioew57

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the efficient, effective and safe care provided by NIAS staff. I am sure this was a frightening experience for you but it was so encouraging to hear about the professionalism and compassion displayed by Aidan. I would like to share your feedback with him and in order to do so I would need a few more details about the date, time and location of the call. If you would like to provide these details please contact me directly at neil.gillan@nias.hscni.net

Best wishes

Neil

Good Afternoon,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience from staying in Male Medical.

I am delighted to hear that it has been a positive one so far. I can only imagine how difficult it is being in hospital and away from your loved ones. I am very pleased that you were pointed in the direction of virtual visiting and will certainly bring it back to staff to ensure to provide this to patients on admission to the ward.

I will ensure the team are all aware of your kind words.

Thank you, Patricia.
