My story starts in October 2021 when I phoned up to ask for a coil replacement.
I already had a coil fitting at Cross Street in Burton five years ago which was done instantly by a midwife led team.
This time, I was told the team to fit the coil would contact me in January via phone, which a doctor informed me would take place in April.
The day came, the procedure was short. My bleeding was very heavy afterwards with clots the size of golf balls.
I rang the clinic on day three and informed them I was double padding and within an hour my bleeding would still soak my trousers and soft furnishings.
Their reply was that it can take up to six months to settle. They suggested when the bleeding stops, check the threads to see if the coil is still in place. That night, my coil fell out with large clots and a lot of pain. I rang them the next day to inform them and was told the next phone consultation was the end of June!!
I waited another two days with heavy bleeding and could not take any more blood loss so contacted Derbyshire sexual health clinic, which noticed my distress and a nurse called me back within that day, explaining that they were not my catchment area but they were happy to help me with information.
I was told to contact the Burton clinic because they have a duty of care, it is an emergency situation they should have dealt with and that waiting till June was not an option.
I hung up and immediately phoned Burton clinic explaining my medical background. They took my name and details, read my notes and informed me again that the earliest phone consultations with a medical professional was June.
I repeated what the nurse from Derbyshire had explained to me that they had a duty of care to see me in emergency situations since they were my first point of contact. They put me on hold. When they returned, they informed me that a nurse would rang me back that same day.
She rang and told me to phone my GP for my bleeding issues. My phone appointment is still the end of June with, I’m sure, another 3 months wait for the procedure.
I don’t understand how Derbyshire could have done the procedure earlier while Staffordshire patients have to wait 6 months. I have no confidence in my local clinic and would be more than happy to travel to Derbyshire since I live on the border and have a Derby postcode.
