About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

Arrived at 22:45 and left at 08:00

At no point did anyone think it would be good practice to inform patients that due to staff shortages and some emergency admissions that no one in the waiting room would be seen.

I asked a nurse for some pain relief and was asked to go back to waiting room and she woul bring some, this didn’t happen and saw the nurse leaving for home.

08:00 and and over 10 hrs later decided to leave ( only one person during the night actually got to see a doctor and most gave up the ghost and went home.

Conclusion (should have gone to Pinderfields)

Dear Kev

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent experience.

I am sorry to read of your significant wait in the department and unfortunately our Emergency Departments have seen a much higher than usual patient attendance. Regrettably this has impacted on the length of time patients have been waiting which is not something we want for any of our patients and for that I am sorry.

It is disappointing to read of the lack of pain relief and for poor communication. I have shared your feedback with the Matron and Manager of their service so that they are aware of your negative experience.

Thank you again for sharing your feedback and I hope you are recovering well.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn

(Head of Patient Experience)
