"I will never forget the amazing the people who cared for me"

About: New Cross Hospital / General surgery New Cross Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I had found out I was pregnant but was having terrible pains. I have had a miscarriage before and it felt like the same sort of pain. I booked in for a scan with the Early Pregnancy Unit at New Cross Wolverhampton to see what was happening.

I only found out I was pregnant on a Wednesday morning and had a scan booked in for the next day. It turns out my pregnancy was in the tube and my tube had burst, explaining the terrible pains I had. However, I didn't experience any of the pains to one side or shoulder pains as they say you do, it felt like a very bad cramp. Looking back I should've gone to the hospital sooner but I never expected something like this to happen.

After my scan, I had to be admitted for emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and remove my tube. When I found out what had happened I was upset, scared and very shaky - the staff on the early pregnancy unit couldn't have been better, in fact, they were amazing.

They made me feel relaxed, we joked and laughed which made me feel so much better. They advised the procedure that needed to be done, which was to remove the tube and because I was internally bleeding they needed to do surgery asap.
I was then admitted to the ward, awaiting surgery. My scan was in the afternoon, surgery was complete by late evening.
It turns out I had lost 400/500ml of blood however, the bleed was progressive and slow - unlike some unfortunate people who sadly lose their lives due to rapid blood loss when the tube bursts.
When I was on the ward there was a nurse called Megan. She will always be embedded in my memory of the experience as she was kind, considerate and followed me down to theatre to help ease my nerves.
Everyone who cared for me was amazing, I cannot fault anything about the treatment I received and will always have great words to say about my experience at New Cross. Potentially saving my life is a debt I'll never be able to repay. This is a massive thank you to the staff there, who went above and beyond what was needed of them.
I consider myself to be very lucky with the timings of my scans etc. If there was a piece of advice I'd give is to test early, I was late on my period for 2 weeks before I took a pregnancy test, when usually my cycle is regular. Looking back it is all a bit of a blur however, I will never forget how great my treatment was and how amazing the people who cared for me were.

Thank you!
