"Alcohol Detox - In safe hands"

About: Dame Carol Detoxification Service

(as the patient),

When I first arrived at the dame carol detox centre I was initially very anxious, although upon arrival I was met with a very friendly face which lessened my anxiety.

You meet with a doctor very soon after arriving to work out your treatment plan in regards to medication ect which was reassuring.

The medication is very effective and after a few days my withdrawals started to ease.

There is a structured day schedule so you know how to plan your day accordingly in regards to meal times and group sessions.

The staff here are absolutely fantastic and I felt I was in very safe hands.

Unfortunately this is a non smoking unit which can be quite difficult but they do offer nicotine replacements.

I personally found the food was not really that enjoyable but still nutritious and plentiful but you can being your own food in to put in the fridge and have access to the microwave if you want to use it.

While your here staff will do observations on you all through the night to  make sure that you are still safe and well which can be annoying but you kind of get used it.

Overall this unit is really nice, clean and modern and has a very relaxed environment, the staff understand any issues or troubles you may be having and will be there for you 24-7.

Unfortunately you can not leave the unit, but if you would like supplies from the shop like snacks or fizzy drinks the staff will do there best to get out to the shop for you so long as you bring cash.

There are no mirrors in your bedroom or bathroom but I believe there are some on order.

Overall my stay at the unit has been pleasant and I cant thanks the staff enough for all the help and support that they have given

Hello KittyRocks1;

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us feedback with regards to your treatment journey with us.

It's completely normal to feel anxious when attending somewhere new but it's so lovely to hear you felt reassured by staff upon arrival.

We feel the group meetings are a great way to structure the day alongside providing support, guidance and knowledge around specific areas during your detox. Staff enjoy delivering these on a daily basis and the feedback we receive is always a positive so thank you for adding to this!

I'm sorry you felt the food wasn't enjoyable; We provide three meals a day on a two weekly rotation to ensure there is variety in the food provided however, I will definitely pass this onto the catering team.

We are a non-smoking unit and understand this can be difficult for some when attending DCDS; We do provide nicotine replacement therapy to help during your stay however I shall feed back your frustrations along with the above.

We endeavour to always ensure your stay here is as comfortable as it can be, so it's really nice to hear you had such a positive experience regarding the regular wellbeing checks, the visibility of staff and the cleanliness of the unit.

We're really thankful for your feedback and are so very pleased you had such a positive experience within the DCDS unit.

I shall pass on your kind words to the team and we wish you all the best for the future.

Amberley Orchard - DCDS Bed Manager.
