I recently attended day surgery at Wishaw General Hospital and had ORIF surgery for a right tibial plateau fracture/crushed knee joint. Prior to this Nurse Scott at Hairmyres A&E department had correctly diagnosed the fracture from the x-ray, when a hospital in another area previously could not and discharged me! Anyway, Lanarkshire took over my care pathway and quickly referred me onto HM Ortho and subsequent day surgery at Wishaw General Hospital. I am a 54 year old female, and had never had any sort of injury which needed an operation., so was anxious when attending both HM and Wishaw. However, all staff (clerical, CSW, physio (stairs), nurses, doctors, anaesthetists and consultant/surgeon) were amazing. I really could not fault how professional they are at their jobs, and how at ease they made me feel. Each introduced themselves and explained their role in my care. I also spoke to the anaesthetist and consultant/surgeon before and after the operation (before my discharge), which I really appreciated as know how much everyone is under pressure and their time is precious. Before discharge I was also given pain killers, a discharge plan, information leaflets for after surgery. I know I have some time for rehab after this injury/operation, but their first-class care has given me an excellent start to the journey ahead. Thank you for helping me , and being excellent at your jobs !
