"Good experience with the gynaecology team"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

After a long wait I was finally called to get a hysteroscopy and polyp removal at the Royal Infirmary. I was quite nervous and tried hard not to show it but the team was so excellent and caring that they saw through me straightaway. I was so grateful for their compassion throughout the whole procedure.

When I arrived I was explained in detail what they were going to do and given time to ask any questions, I didn't feel rushed at all. Then they started the procedure and two nurses joined. At one point I felt unwell and one of the nurses (I think her name was Dawn?) held my hand.

Empathy and compassion are really important to me and I was extremely grateful to feel that my pain and anxiety were taken into account throughout the procedure. On top of it all that they were all really nice people with a good sense of humour. It's difficult to maintain that attitude in this day and age so kudos to them all! :)

I believe I was seen by Dr Rice, Gabby, Dawn and someone else whose name I can't quite recall (I was nervous, sorry). Apologies if I got any names wrong, I just thought it was important to thank them regardless. I wish I come across health professionals like them in the future!

Dear Lost

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about the positive experience you had when you attended the Royal Infirmary yesterday for a Gynaecological procedure.

I was delighted to hear that the attitude, empathy, care and compassion shown to you was helpful in reducing your anxiety.

I will pass on your positive feedback to Dr Rice, Dr Gabby Deehan and Deputy Charge Nurse Dawn Mackintosh. I will also try and identify and thank the other member of staff you have kindly mentioned.

Kind Regards

Katy Ruggeri

Associate Director of Midwifery, Gynaecology and Neonatology
