"Total admiration for young peoples services"

(as a service user),

My son sustained a nasty open fracture tibia & fibula following a rugby tackle gone wrong at the beginning of December 2021. We are now at the other side of the injury and starting rehabilitation and I wanted to express our utmost gratitude to all the professionals we have encountered at Edinburgh sick kids throughout his journey and recovery.

As an AHP and NHS employee I love the NHS but being a patient alongside my son has allowed me to truly experience the amazing and wonderful people who make the NHS so special.  We have only experienced kindness, understanding and professionalism throughout.

We will be forever grateful to the paramedics who responded so quickly, to the A&E staff who managed his pain so well and of course the on -call surgeons and then the plastics and orthopaedic team who operated and fixed the injury with such  speed and expertise. We were always communicated with effectively, kept up to date with the plan and any necessary changes.  A special thanks to the  fantastic plaster technicians replacing his casts every week with patience and skill.

The fantastic nurses in Dunvegan  ward and plastics outpatients were  so kind and caring. We were touched to receive a Christmas and birthday present during our contact with them. These little gestures mean so much during a time which can be scary and overwhelming.

The physiotherapists have also been just amazing and we now look forward to working with them to get my son back to fitness and playing rugby again.

I will always struggle to articulate just how much the support and care of all the amazing staff at the sick kids made an awful accident and situation so much better.  Our heartfelt thanks to them all ❤️

Pdilson,

I would first of all like to say how pleased I am that your son is getting well again and wish him well for the rest of his rehabilitation journey. Can I thank you for using this platform to express your gratitude and give us feedback from your experience, I will ensure that this is passed on to all the staff involved. Feedback allows us to continue to provide person-centered care for all our patients and your comments have a huge part in this so thank you.

I am sure he will be back playing rugby in no time!

Louise Fegan
