"Brilliant "

About: Wrightington Hospital

I come to Wrightington Hospital over 20 years now . it changed a lot. very modern now. the service itself remained the same. helpful brilliant in any way. I like the modern wards like Ward B where I am right now writing this . Most are single rooms which let you have a better sleep and therefore quicker recovery . The Nurses are lovely . The Cleaners grat . All staff is brilliant incl the OPD the admission team the secretaries and and and.

the food is outstanding really.

and the girls come around with tea and coffee quite often .

few things that annoy me every time sadly. ( but that's same in EVERY NHS Hospital and maybe the NHS should review their policies on those points to make patientsand nurses lives easier )

1.Not best communication between Lower and upper limb surgeons. when you under both same time you would think the surgeons work better together to discuss next steps.

2. Medication patients bring their own medicines. At the ward it gets locked away . why ? we know how to take it how much and when . we do it daily at home . It causes a lot of issues as meds not received at usual times therefore the pain is extremely high and bad. The doctor on duty has to sign the meds which can take hrs . meds you on since years and the right combination of meds which can take years to finally get it right is most of times messed up once the doctor decide you need less of this or that or at different times. very frustrating and disturbing.

3. yes the bedside table / lockers are NHS property but what's in it whilst I am here is mine. I feel like I am ether in prison or mentally not clued up cause nurses walk in open the locker and pull things out. asking then what's this or that. one even opened my little rucksack looking through it . I said excuse me . its my personal stuff you can ask me what I have or what it is but don't just open my locker going through or just go in my bag / rucksack. again something I experienced in other hospitals too.

4. it's sad to see a nurse who works in the job years and promoted to a sister or ward nurse have to take all responsibilities but don't have the right to decide to give a patient a painkiller bit stronger than paracetamol without asking for go ahead and signature of Dr. on duty . The nurses themselves have to spend way to much time on paperwork. nowadays all should be easier going digital with all files. even on the ward .

but those points are general issues in every Hospital so far the same . The first part of my post here is about wrightington only and the all in all service is absolutely fine and great. Dont get frustrated nurses. stick together and make your point. do it weekly and you will be listened to. do it once only and nobody will make a change .
