"Everyone was so kind and helpful"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency North Devon District Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

In December 2021 I fell from a skip and broke 7 ribs which also resulted in my having a Flailed section. I was struggling to breath and was unable to move. Luckily my neighbours were on the scene quickly and called the emergency services and kept me warm and comfortable.

The Paramedics arrive around 45 minutes after the accident and were fantastic. They administered pain relief and made me as comfortable as possible and raised my spirits. An ambulance arrived around 20 minutes after the Paramedics to take me to Barnstaple hospital. Again the Ambulance people were fantastic too.

Once I arrived at the hospital the service I received was very good. Everyone was extremely helpful and caring and I was seen very quickly. More pain relief was administered and I had a tube fitted into my back to deliver more pain relief.

Once on the in a bed on the ward I was looked after extremely well by the nurses and doctors as well as the all the other staff, whether they were medics or part of the catering team. Everyone was so kind and helpful. Without the help of these dedicated people my recovery would have been a whole lot more painful and longer.
