"Reassuring and pain-free dental treatment"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

(as the patient),

I was extremely anxious about having my teeth removed as I had never had this before and I’m so so happy with the experience I had. Dr Watts and the nurses were lovely and extremely helpful and supportive. He asked if I wanted calming music on whilst the procedure happened which helped.

When having the local anaesthetic injections he made sure I was comfortable and helped me with my breathing the whole time. Told me to raise my hand if I needed them to stop. Reassured me that everything was ok and talked me through everything happening and made me feel so at ease.

One of the nurses gave me a stress ball to squeeze which was a massive help! After everything was done the nurses made sure I was ok and gave aftercare instructions. I’m so pleased with everything and how it all went. I’m now on day 3 after surgery and I have so far experienced no pain!

Dear SophieM,

Thank you so much for your kind feedback.

We really try hard to make a procedure as least stressful as possible as we realise a lot of patients find coming to see us for treatment anxiety inducing, so I am very glad to hear the little techniques we use were helpful to you.

I will make sure your comments are passed on to the rest of the team and Dr Watts.

Best wishes

Sammy Ellaway
