"Ultra sound"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Surgery (wards 19, 20, 24, 26 &29)

(as the patient),

I recently found a lump on my chest which I was concerned about so made an appointment with my GP. They felt the lump and referred me for an ultrasound at the RAH and told me to see them again if there were any changes before I was seen at the hospital. Over the next few weeks the lump grew in size, and feeling worried, I went back to see them. They agreed the lump had increased in size and changed my referral from a routine referral to urgent. I managed to get a cancellation appointment and went to my appointment feeling very anxious. I went into the room with a nurse and got changed. We had to wait for the doctor to come and the nurse made me feel at ease by answering some questions I had.

The doctor then came in and straight away I felt a change in the mood. They asked about my symptoms. As a explained they felt my chest and said they couldn't feel anything and I had to show them, despite the lump being quite prominent by this time. As they scanned my chest they told me very bluntly there was nothing concerning and what I was feeling was simply my collar bone. I questioned this as I didn't feel they gave a very thorough examination and I had been worried about a very obvious change in my body which I self check regularly, only to be told the same thing again. Their manner made me feel like I had no reason to be there, like I was stupid and wasting their time. I was very taken aback by their attitude and left the appointment feeling very silly, humiliated and upset. I would not waste a doctors time, especially as I know how much the nhs are under pressure at the moment, but I, and clearly my own GP felt it needed checked. 

My concerns about the lump on my chest are still causing me a great deal of worry and I am extremely upset about the way I was treated at my appointment.
