"Poor Infection control measures during Covid Booster"

About: NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde / Covid Vaccination Programme

(as a service user),

I received my Covid booster in Glasgow and have concerns regarding infection control measures. Nurses aren’t washing hands in between administering vaccinations, seating and tables aren’t sanitised in between patients. My injection site wasn’t sterilised and the injection site for IM deltoid was far too high at the point of the lateral head of deltoid and not the muscle body.

I believe this runs the risk of people suffering SIRVA and other complications and has left me with a really painful shoulder, much more painful than any other IM vaccination in the same area.

I have contacted my colleagues from the Vaccination Team and we are sorry to hear about your experience at our vaccination centre, and that you have been left with a sore shoulder. We would like to reassure you that we take infection control very seriously. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we will re-emphasise the importance of hygiene to our staff across our Vaccination centres.

If you wish to contact us with details we can investigate any clinical concerns that you may have. Please email patientexperience@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with your details.
