"Communication about appointments"

About: Banbridge Health & Social Care Centre

(as a parent/guardian),

I got a phone call from the health visitor team (Banbridge). The person I was talking to said they were a health visitor. It wasn't until I went to the appointment, did I realise the appointment was with a health visitor assistant. I only knew this because of their uniform and reading the red book when I got home. Not once did they say their job was an assistant, I believed they were another qualified health visitor.

I don't mind being seen by assistants, but I feel they should make it clear they are assistants/auxiliaries.

Dear 123kt39

I am so sorry that one of our Health Visiting Assistants ( HVAs) did not explain her role to you, and had not made it clear that she was not a health visitor. The HVAs are a valuable part of our health visiting team and are specially trained to carry out certain reviews and visits on behalf of the health visitors they work with. I will remind all our HVAs of the importance of introducing themselves and their role clearly to families. At any time you wish to see / speak to a health visitor please contact the team in Banbridge.
