A week following the birth of my daughter, I was having trouble sitting down because there was a sore on my buttocks. I visited the doctor and had an infected abscess drained and dressed.
The doctor said that I would have to have the wound re-dressed a few times that week and I went on my merry way. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning of my journey. For three months, I was visiting the nursing unit three times a week to have my dressing changed and wound checked. Thankfully, I eventually began to heal and my appointments didn't have to be so frequent but I am nearing the end of month four of this endeavour.
Getting to appointments on my own three times a week with a newborn was a challenge I hadn't considered having to overcome, but sometimes we are presented with unexpected obstacles.
What made this journey and its many highs and lows bearable was the incredible care of the staff at the Blairgowrie Cottage Hospital. What a team! I have felt listened to, cared about, and valued by all of the members of the team, and I have always had a warm reception and a high standard of care. They have always been considerate with appointment times and the continuity of care, despite seeing different people, has been excellent.
Thanks to all of the nurses for everything they've done. We'll miss their friendly faces when this is all over.
