"Lack of pharmacy options"

About: King's Mill Hospital / General medicine

(as a friend),

My friend has been in & out of hospital for a number of weeks and was on an I.V drip.  They wanted to keep her in but she is a single mum & the same day she was allocated a house after being in a refuge, so she had to leave the refuge the following morning, she got this information whilst in hospital on I.V antibiotics. She tried to collect her prescription (bearing in mind she has no transport), added to the fact she had to leave her accommodation immediately & move into a home with nothing in it at all & I mean nothing, she tried more over the weekend & was told to go back to Kings Mill, which she had an appointment anyway for a follow up.. the Consultant was well aware of her situation as I was there when she spoke to them about the prescription.

Three days later she attended Kings Mill again & once again they wanted her to stay, but she has no one to look after her children, she was again given a prescription for 4 items & told to go back the following week so the Consultant can check on her, it was late when she left Kings Mill & the Pharmacy was closed, but again assumed as she'd explained it to them they would give her a prescription to collect from any pharmacy, she had to go straight back home as she was waiting for a housing repair person coming out for a problem in her home.

Yesterday she attempted 3 different pharmacies to get the script filled, again to be told she needed to go back to Kings Mill... I have literally just checked on her as she has no one, she never asks for help, she told me she felt so unwell today with not getting her medication, I said I would go over & take her... but the pharmacy at the hospital is now closed...  this is disgraceful... she is having to walk to & from hospital as she has not had her U.C sorted out yet, she has no food..which is why I have been helping her & her children (her children have only seen me a few times when I've taken donated household items over).

The same thing has happened to me in the past but I'm lucky & can drive & I always make sure I get a script that I can pick up anywhere. Surely things must change.. at this rate I worry that my friend will be in hospital over Christmas.
