"Dad being admitted to QEH"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a)

(as a relative),

Dad was admitted to QEH A&E.  The staff were lovely and kept my mum updated.  He was transferred to medial assessment for one night and again I felt dad's care was excellent.  He had CT, all reviews done by medics over a 24 hr period. He was transferred to ward 54 medical unit.

On arrival I can't believe how cheerful and helpful staff were, once he was settled we were allowed to see him, the senior charge nurse Sister Crawford introduced herself. My dad again was seen by doctor to clarify and discuss plan of care.  My dad is very independent and has full capacity however it was a very worrying time as he was confused and disoriented on admission. Can I just the the care he was given was second to none from the nurses, CSW and doctors.   All aspects of care was excellent from monitoring his food intake mobility and pressure area care.

My dad was discharged home 7 days later, orientated, mobile, back to his old self, with a full explanation of the events and follow up care.  He said he couldn't have been treated any better than if he was Prince Charles.

I had to take the time to write this as being a nurse myself I was so impressed with the care given to each and every patient in the ward.  The CSW showed true compassion, smiling and assuring patients not to worry when they needed assistance for all activities of daily living.  The nursing staff and senior charge nurse again making us feel welcome, keeping us updated all with a smile, nothing was a bother.

With this difficult time of short staffing levels I can truly say my dad's treatment was not affected. Well done to all the QEH staff, and I can't forget the cheery porters who transferred my staff from the main building to ward 54, I salute you all.

Dear Relxf43

Thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback in regards to your family's experience of visiting your dad when he was admitted to the Elderly Medicine ward through the A&E Department of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

It was nice to hear how all the staff made your dad feel comfortable and involved him in discussions about his care in which must have been a very worrying time for him and all the family.

I'm glad your dad is now back to his old self and is recovering well.

I'll be delighted to pass on your thanks to all the staff involved who I'm sure will be as humbled as I was to read your story.

Kind regards

Kevin
