About: Russells Hall Hospital

Understanding the pressures of staff I have empathy. However this does not give staff an excuse to be rude to patients. I was disgusted how I was spoken to by 4 different staff members from reception and in the Xray department. I was polite, listened, patient and most of all understanding. But staff were neither understanding or polite or listened to me. Respect works both ways and felt the rudeness from certain staff members was just unacceptable. Confirming results of an Xray I then proceeded to ask further questions about results and what could be possible reasons for injuries and a particparticular staff member was rudely dismissive and I was fobbed off with repeatedly "it isnt broken", with no additional advice that was not even worth relaying. The tone was set from reception where the attitude of at least 2 receptionists was absolutely disgusting. I've never come across such rude staff in the space of time there, time which I can't get back. I had to bite my lip at every moment as deep inside I was boiling because of how I was spoken to. If I was to show any disrespect, I'd have been immediately carted out the hospital. "But its ok for them to speak to me like I'm garbage??, like I'm nothing??. People still have other health concerns that does not relate to Covid and there should not be discrimination towards illness. I am just so disappointed with the lack of empathy from staff, and lack of respect. How I contained myself I will never know. Hold on.. I do know. Because my mother told me to treat people how I want to be treated. Today that was worth nothing because it appears some people were brought up with different morals. The way I was treated has left a bitter taste in my mouth and a loss respect for our health service. What has the world become if society can't even be respectful of others.

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback about your experience in the Radiology department at our hospital. We always aim to offer the highest standards of patient experience and care and so we are very sorry that we fell short of those standards during your visits.

It is difficult to comment on your specific case without your details but we would welcome the opportunity to look into the concerns you have raised and hopefully resolve some of these issues for you. We strongly urge you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on free phone 0800 073 0510 or email dgft.pals@nhs.net who will be able to support you with this.

As part of our ongoing commitment to improve patient care, this feedback will be forwarded to the Matron who manages the Radiology department for them to follow up with their staff.

All the best and take care,

Patient Experience Team
