"My wifes Follow up care at Orthopedic clinic not..."

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

Anything else?

On arrival at Orthopedic/Fracture clinic the receptionist on arrival was pleasant enough. We didnt have too long to wait before my wife was called into a cubical/room. It was difficult to hear in a noisy busy clinic but my wife went over to the nurse and followed her into a room. I wished i had gone in with her because when she told me the attitude of the male member of staff, a registrar or consultant, and a nurse was apalling and my wife broke down in the ambulance bay, I was not impressed. She said the male member of staff moved her arm in various ways to determine movement which I can appreciate. However when my wife flinched and cringed with pain i was shocked to hear that he had said " what? That hurts? It shouldnt hurt! My wife has a broken radius in in her forearm she has been in agony and if some manipulation of the arm had caused pain shouldnt the response have been more sensitive and apology. My wife asked if something could have been put on her arm for little protection from our little daughter. She knew she was not getimg a pot on her arm. The nurse spoke up and said well just tell her to be careful. Erm im sorry does she have children? Our daughter is three doesnt always understand such things for all she is very bright for her age. For a doctor to exclaim and ask if that hurts when he moves my wifes arm and say its not supposed to hurt is a little off! Obviously my wife is in agony and his manipulation of her arm did hurt. My wife suffers from depression and i think she deserves a little more sensitivity and due care how she is spoken too. Its hard timw when I am unemployed and looking for work we have 3 year old daughter to look after and I have to make sure my wife is comfortable. If I had been presenr I think I would have been forced to say something. Yes it may been busy and lots of pekple to see but vulnerable people need care and consideration. I have a lot of customer service experience and vulnerable people need to be handled carefully with respect. We respect you healthcare staff and put our trust in you for being trained to help us with recooperation from injury or illness. She just has to wear collar and cuff and return in four weeks time. Im afraid my Wife is already scared of going back in April and its four weeks away she hopes she gets different staff. I hope she just gets the proper follow up care she deserves. She has never been so scared cant get bath shower herself and needs help getting dressed. I dont know how we would manage if I was back at Work.
