"Trent PTS"

About: Trent Pts

(as a service user),

I was offered a possible six phone sessions, I had two sessions cancelled due to counsellor illness (not a problem, of course) however, this meant that I was discharged suddenly, being told a letter would be sent requesting referral to Secondary mental health services. The letter has not been found though. That may be down to Trent, or my GP.

Most noteworthy - after being told I was being discharged, I was immediately told I met criteria for psychiatric diagnosis/es. I found this distressing and shocking, as the call ended literally within a couple of minutes of being told this.

I've worked in the field of charitable mental health and advocacy for many years, and worked with all levels of mental health professionals, and worked with distressed, vulnerable people for many years, and I found the sessions pretty dismissive, not collaborative in tone at all.

I was accused (yes the tone was accusatory) of choosing to be distracted, I'm afraid I experienced no insights or interventions, it was patronising in tone. If the service is poor and overworked/poorly funded etc in general, then my empathy goes to the staff who are in an impossible position and under pressure themselves.

I'm not going to discuss further, or make a complaint on the advice of a private professional I'm now seeing, but I was urged to make a note of my experience.

Unfortunately not positive for my sense of well-being, or my recovery.
