I took my daughter to Rotherham A and E after NHS Direct advised me to take her there urgently after vomiting blood, They wanted to send an Ambulance but I decided to take her myself,
Now I wish we'd gone in the ambulance. When we arrived there at 6am approx there was no one waiting so we were hopeful of being seen quickly, We told the receptionist that we'd been advised to get there urgently as vomiting blood isn't normal she booked us in then we saw a triage nurse who told us that we'd be seen fairly quickly as there weren't many people before us.
Two hours later we were still waiting and no one had been called to see a doctor so I went to see the receptionist who informed me that it would be busy with ambulance arrivals. I was very tempted to ring for an ambulance to pick us up from A and E and take us round to the ambulance entrance.
After another hour of no one being called in I had to ask for pain killers for my daughter who by now was in pain and going dizzy. Finally we got called in where my daughter was given pain killers and a blood test, we were then sent somewhere else to wait for the results of the blood tests thankfully the nurse there let my daughter lay on a bed.
After an hour I asked if the blood tests had come back only to be told that they were back but the doctor had to see them and tell us the results later. I asked the nurse if my daughter could have a drink of water but they said she was nil by mouth and had to see what the blood tests were. After some time the nurse said that the doctor had phoned and we could go home we weren't told what was wrong with her only to avoid Ibuprofen. We had been there over 6 hours and about 20 minutes of that time was actually with a doctor or nurse.
Next time we need a hospital we wont be going to Rotherham. It's just the last in a long line of bad experiences there.
