Anything else?
Visited ENT for a follow up for my child. This is an ongoing issue and she has had surgery in the past to have grommets and we were warned she may need another set.
Firstly the nurses and the Lady doing the hearing test were fabulous.
Saw a different doctor this time and what upset me is not what she said but how she handled my reaction and showed very little empathy or understanding.
I would say its fairly normal and understandable for a parent to feel upset and shocked to be offered a hearing aid for their child. This has never been mentioned at all in several visits to ENT and audiology at rope walk. I was referred back to ENT under the impression that my daughter may be recommended for a further set of grommets or to just watch and wait so a hearing aid was a shock. I then received a whole verbal recital on how we shouldn't have this stigma around hearing aids. A little empathy whilst I digested the info would have been more appropriate than to tell me off for not taking it all in mystride. for my eyes filling up and going so red with shock that my face burnt.
Needless to say I won't be seeing that doctor again as when I explained I was shocked because the options I had come to discuss were grommets or watch and wait, she then aggressively questioned who said that what was his name which of course I didnt remember and then went on to say how the audiologist s are not medics like she is!!!
I had to stand up out of my chair and explain my reaction was a natural reaction of shock and that as a parent anything wrong with your child is a shock and thy she would do well to try and understand why people's initial reactions may not be the same as hers as she deals with this every day so is perfectly normal to her.
Still reeling after 24 hrs and considering going private for grommets. I accept the nice guidelines have changed (now I have deciphered her explanations using google as she spoke in jargon about 49 db blah blah that I didn't understand)
