My daughter attended out of hours doctor with a bad mastoid infection, the G.P phoned ahead to the ENT consultant and gave me a letter to pass on to him, he was waiting for us to get to the hospital. On entering A&E I passed the letter to the receptionist, stating the ENT consultant was waiting for us. She was rude, abrupt and kept us waiting an hour with a very sick child, as we HAD to be booked in via the system despite me having already seen a doctor and having a letter stating the problem and serious nature of the problem. This delay could have caused the illness my daughter had to become septicaemia.. I am disgusted with her attitude and treatment of me and my child
However, I have given the ward 14 top marks, the staff; nurses, doctors, consultants, cleaners and porters, ALL staff were wonderful, kind, friendly and helpful in what was a very stressful and worrying few days. They surely are a credit to the hospital and I cannot thank them enough. Although my whole experience was marred by the receptionist at A&E I would recommend the hospital for all other problems. Both my daughters are awaiting grommets at the Royal, my experience of their day surgery ward is also very good, and I highly recommend.
"Children's ward 14 fantastic, receptionist at A& E..."
