"Excruciating hysteroscopy"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / General surgery

(as a service user),

I had a hysteroscopy on Monday. I consider myself to have a pretty good pain threshold,  and despite the reassurance that any pain would be mild, it was one of the most unbearable experiences I have ever endured. I have never cried through anything like it ever.

The staff were very supportive and kind but this should not be described as something that is relatively painless/mild and in my opinion, not only does the NHS patient info need to warn of the brutal, archaic treatment of women during this procedure but at the very least local anaesthetic should be made routine.
