"Care of My mother's possessions"

About: Coathill Hospital / Glenmore Unit (Care of the Elderly)

(as a service user),

My mum was in Coathill for six weeks, having been moved there from Monklands Hospital pending admission to a care home. For the most part, my review is positive: The staff were wonderfully caring and considerate of my mother and her needs and exceptionally kind to me when I visited and when I requested updates on her care. She was always, obviously, well-cared for during her stay there.

However, the same cannot be said for her possessions, and this is my one complaint. Various items of clothing and possessions had gone missing on her discharge. After many, many phone calls, some items, seemingly, had been found and held, waiting for collection. On visiting to collect said items, I was informed they had gone missing again. Many phone calls later, many promises to call me back to return said items later, I have accepted that they are lost forever.

So, if you have a loved one going to Coathill, I strongly suggest that you limit personal possessions as much as possible, that you undertake to do your own relative's laundry, that you keep track, as far as is possible given Covid restrictions, on all of your relative's possessions.I'm really sorry to leave anything negative here, because, as I say, the staff are exceptional in their care of patients, but I feel it's important to warn others of this problem.

Dear Karjon,

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for Coathill. I will certainly ensure that this is feed back to the staff in Glenmore ward. We are sorry to hear that your relative has had items go missing during their stay within the ward. if you wish to discuss this further to see if we can give you an update on this I am happy to do so. If you contact patient affairs at University Hospital Monklands either by email: PatientAffairs.Monklands@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk or phone: 01236 713065 then we will look into the details of this.

Kind regards

Ann Frances
