"Waiting after the initial assessment for an xray"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Emergency Medicine Ninewells Hospital / Accident & Emergency Ninewells Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a service user),

Waiting from 16:30 in the afternoon after the initial assesment by the consultant until 2030 in the evening for an xray

I went  to Royal hospital  A&E in Aberdeen to be seen  at 16:10 in August  2021

I came  in with an inflammation on my knee (the size of  a big orange and very painful
By 1635  I was already seen by the consultant  on duty  which I thought was great, by 1640 I was  sent to the minor injuries  unit to get an xray done to be sure nothing  else was wrong with it  apart of the infection.

20:35  I have approached  one of the radiologists  on duty and asked  if there is any chance  for me to get  an xray  as after   4 hours of waiting  with 38.5 twmperture , not have  been able to go to the toilet or to get something to drink or eat  all this time  for the fear of  not loosing my turn to be told  that  the minor injuries was closed by then and  I am being triaged with all the big emergencies  and  it might take  at least 2.5 hours  or more  until I will be getting  to be seen.

I am on medication for my Hep b and high blood pressure  and  I need it to get my pills.

I had to tell them that I can't  wait for  another  3 hours  in the hope that I might be seen.

I chose to leave , their answer to that including  the reception was  that it was my choice to leave  and if I do I will have to go again in the morning  trough the same  thing.

I refused to go there again and chose to go to Ninewells  Dundee.

I went   to the A&E   and 2  hours  later  I was  seen  by a Nurse , consultant , had my  xray done  and seen  the orthopedic  Doctor,  all in an amazingly  friendly and  very caring environment.

I felt  I was treated like a human unlike  the staff in Aberdeen  who made me feel  like a nuisance, disregarding the fact  that I was in pain  waiting for more then 4 hours for an xray so I can get my treatment.

The waiting room was  empty  for hours  and  the gentleman on duty choose to take  phonecalls rather to get me in  knowing  that I was there for so many hours .

Big thumbs up to the stuff in the Ninewells  hospital for doing their job so good.

Horrible  experience  in Aberdeen

I think they should  take a page out of the Dundee  team

I cant thank them enough
