"Recent stroke & home rehabilitation"

About: Specialist Therapy Services / Community Stroke Team – South Notts

(as a service user),

After suffering a very unexpected stroke & returning home after 5 days in hospital my family & I were contacted by the community stroke team & a visit was arranged. Jasmine & Thea came to do the initial visit. Both very very positive, encouraging & keen to start my rehab. A few days later Ian came to our home. Wow - What a man. The man with the magic hands. Ian came out 3 times a week (fully kitted out in his ppe equipment - battling with the heat as they all were & during a very unsure time in the world) - spending time & helping my hand regain movement, feeling & strength. His constant input back to Jasmine helped them give me the right treatment. Every time he came, my body knew about it as I found myself having long rests & a few afternoon naps. Between us all & with patience, encouragement, hard work & belief, I improved beyond what anyone thought possible. I regained movement not just in my hand, but wrist & lower arm. Even having MS & a stroke, nothing could stop the dream team. I recently reached as far as I could rehab wise & will continue with the exercises that Ian & Jasmine have shown me & my family. I will miss the team but know where they are if I need them. I literally couldn’t have been in better hands. So from me a huge thank you for everything & for all the support you have given me & my family.

Many thanks for taking the time to feedback on the service you received from the Community Stroke Team.

I am thrilled that you have found the service a great source of support to you and your family. Our service aims to rehabilitate and support people following a stroke and in doing this we aim to support their families as well. It is really important to us that we hear from patients/carers/family to inform us of how we are doing, in order to shape the delivery of services to provide the best care possible.

I am encouraged to hear your kind words about the team. Thank you, I will be sure to feedback to Jasmine, Thea and Ian, who will be thrilled by your positive feedback.

We have had to adapt to a new ways of working due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, but feel reassured that the feedback we are getting is positive and that that we are still able to help and support stroke survivors and families like yourself throughout this period.

It is great to hear that you have made such good progress following our intervention and hope that you continue to improve beyond our input with your self management programme.

Reading this feedback has made me so proud of the services we deliver and the staff working within the team. Thank you for your kindness and please accept my best wishes for your future health.

Thank you so much.

Claire Lee

Community Stroke Team Lead
