Anything else?
I went into Good Hope for a minor operation as a day case. I was impressed by the friendly and caring attitude of the staff right from the initial welcome to the final goodbye. The nurses were welcoming and explained what would happen. The surgeon and anaesthetist were friendly and professional and answered my questions. The staff in the operating theatre were again friendly and gave me a feeling of confidence. I feel I was very well looked after by cheerful professional people all along the line.
The daycase ward was single sex and was very clean. I was shown to my cubicle and told it would be my 'home' for the day so I could relax. There was a large locker and a chair to sit in so I didn't have to lie on the bed at first.
The nurses were apparently shortstaffed, although they remained cheerful and professional and apologised several times for delays. I liked the fact that I was allowed to walk to the theatre rather than being on a trolley - it helps to maintain a feeling of control. I was treated like an individual, with respect.
I was offered pain relief as needed, and was given a good supply to take home. I was given clear instructions about what to do at home.
The whole experience was a good one and the staff at the Good Hope Day Case unit should be praised. Excellent service from the NHS - thank you!
"Excellent experience of day case surgery at Good..."
