I have recently been diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. I am in my late 30's and have 3 children. I am a nurse. I previously had chemotherapy in 2002 and had a really awful experience. I was only 19 at the time. When I found out I would need chemo again more recently I was extremely anxious. I had my first dose of chemo at RD&E on a Friday then became very sick over the weekend and into the following week. By Tuesday night I knew I needed help. On Wednesday morning my family called the RD&E AOS nurse who then spoke with the AOS at NDDH. They arrange for me to go into the Seamoor Unit straight away. I arrived with my head in a bucket held by my mother. I was taken straight into a sideroom and treated with dignity and respect. I truely felt looked after. Everything they did was explained to me and I felt like they listened to me. I didn't feel like 'just another patient' I felt like they really wanted to make me feel better. Which they did! They followed up with a phone call the next day and a couple days later to check up on me. They even posted me out something to help relieve the pain from my mouth ulcers.
I'd like to thank Pippa and Naomi for their personal touch it really makes a huge difference.
