The staff and food in the AMU is excellent, however I feel like there is lack of communication in explaining medical things to me.
I came into the emergency department last week by ambulance and spent a night there in Resuss before moving to the acute medical unit. The staff here are really nice, every single one of them. I am very happy with my side room and cleanliness. The tv remote is missing so I feel quite bored with nothing to do, as im not the best with technology or phones. The food is beautiful and is honestly the highlight of my day.
My only issue is a lack of communication about my medical diagnosis and treatment. I have kidney and heart failure, so I assumed when I came to ED ill, it was due to one of those conditions I have. I was soon told I had an aggressive lung cancer, so I asked how long do I have, thinking in terms of Do I have less than 5 years or like ten years.... I was told its only weeks I have. This was a huge shock to me, I dont even think it has hit. I felt so scared and anxious with so many questions but no doctor has been by in a while.
I feel scared and not informed as to what my next treatment plan is, where do we go from here, more on my diagnosis. My daughters also feel there is a lack of information too. However, today after speaking to the medical student who came round asking for my feedback on Care Opinion, she asked the deputy sister for a doctor to call round for a private chat to help me understand and maybe put my mind at ease. Hopefully this takes place
