"Not able to get injections from the rheumatology department"

About: Fairfield General Hospital / Rheumatology

(as a service user),

I have been a patient at the Rheumatology dept at Fairfield hospital for a number of years. For the last year I have had a really bad knee and unfortunately not been able to see a consultant at Fairfield due to the Pandemic. Even when restrictions were easing still unable to see a Consultant or go for a steroid injection. I have had so many phone

Consultations cancelled or not received received them at all my last one was the

in May 2021 which again was cancelled.

I rang the the Rheumatology helpline because was in a lot of pain only to be told they we’re not giving steroid injections and was was prescribed steroid tablets instead which were useless. I found the nurses to be very uncaring and I felt like they just wanted to get rid of me

My GP has recently written to the department to ask for me to be seen but without success as they still will not see me.

What I fail to understand is you can go into Hospital for an operation you can also go to have a X-ray. I have also been to have a endoscopy in the last few months when Covid was quite high but I am unable to visit the Rheumatology dept to see a consultant or to have a steroid injection it does not make any sense.

I have another phone consultation on the in August but I won’t hold my breath as this will probably be cancelled or just will not happen.
