Anything else?
Mum was admitted after an emergency transfer from a community hospital.
Staff on the ward , whether young students, care workers, doctors or nurses in charge were kind and caring to Mum and her family. The empathy shown by the tea lady demonstrated a commitment to care and concern that we experienced throughout Mum's short stay.
The staff were very stretched at times and personal demands of geriatric medicine are clearly high for the small numbers of staff responsible.
Despite the demands, the emotional well-being of family members coping with the last hours of a loved one were always considered. We were given space to spend time together but whenever we asked for assistance for Mum it was given promptly and we were involved at all times. We were carefully consulted about her care and medication.
