Unfortunately as often happens my 93 year old mum fell and broke her hip - needing admission and care in Ward 3B at Pilgrim. The paramedics and ambulance crew were excellent and extremely caring and handed us over to staff in A & E, where Mum was checked and x-rayed and returned, all expediently and with very little waiting, and we were kept informed of progress at all times.
By the aftenoon a bed had been allocated on Ward 3B and Mum was settled ready for operation the next day. This was her first operation ever but the staff were so very kind and caring and I was very happy to leave her in their care Throughout her five week stay on the ward I couldn't fault the care and attention she received. The doctors were fantastic, the nursing staff always ready to help and deal with her problems and needs, the bedlinen was crisp and clean each day and the domestic staff friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately the nursing staff and physio/occupational therapist had some difficulty motivating mum to become active, which together with one or two infections lead to a much longer stay than was hoped, We were able to contact the ward for updates on her progress and mum was able to take calls from myself and my sister, who lives some way away, so we never felt there were any problems with communication.
It was a really nice thought that Mum received a card and small box of chocolates on Christmas Day too. Can only say how pleased we were with her care and thank all the staff concerned.
