I went for my covid vaccine at Greenwood Conference Centre this evening at approx quarter to seven. Whilst waiting in line, a member of staff pointed to the lower regions of another person in line and shouted “that’s a biggy”. They then clarified they were pointing at a tattoo on the person's leg and saying “big A”, but the innuendo was clear. The same staff member then proceeded to tell a story to the entire room (members of staff and the public) about a tattoo they had done whilst on holiday in Tenerife, and continued on by saying how strangers then accused them of being gay and expressed having felt offence at this. The story ended with this staff member telling another person in line that they would be gay if that person wanted them to be. Just as this story finished, another member of staff received a phone call to which the first staff member referred to the ringtone using a gay reference.
I was upset as I am LGBTQ myself. The whole undertone of the conversation and actions felt homophobic. I raised the issue with the nurses in charge (both were very good) who offered reassurance.
