"Rapid treatment but long wait for information"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Acute Medical Unit

(as the patient),

I was admitted to acute medical 8. The nurse staff on the ward were run off their feet but also very helpful and tried to keep me informed. The communication from the doctor however was very poor to myself and it seemed also towards the nurses. I was very quickly given several tests and scans but the doctors were busy to discuss the results and I had to wait a long time for a letter and medication to go home. There were several patients whose behaviour was disgusting and personally I would have called the police but them nurses dealt with them firmly and professionally. I would particularly like to thank Ashley and Susan overnight and Karen Emma and Lauren whose dogged determination to get me and other patients home was very impressive

Dear Racieuto

Many thanks for letting me hear about your experience whilst in the Acute Medical Unit. I am pleased to hear you found the nursing staff to be professional and determined and that you felt they give you the information you needed when available. I can only apologise for what seemed like poor communication from the doctors and I will ensure that this is feedback to them so they understand that not communicating promptly causes patients anxiety and concern.

Im happy to hear that all tests and investigations were done quickly and understand how frustrating the delay was waiting for results and subsequent discharge.

I will feedback to the nurses you kindly mentioned in your story and pass on your positive comments to them.

Thanks again for allowing me the opportunity to hear your story and hope you have made a speedy recovery after your discharge from hospital

Regards

Gill
