"Ear problems"

About: General Practices in NHS Highland

(as a service user),

I am unfortunately someone who suffers from a build up of ear wax resulting in discomfort, pain and hearing loss. The only way of resolving this is to get help from the GP or nurse and to have my ears syringed to relieve the discomfort, risk of infection and perhaps most importantly for me, to be able to hear. So having suffered over the weekend and ear drops making no difference I phoned my local surgery to arrange to have this done. I was then informed that the surgery does not do this and referred to a private entity that does carry this out. I have subsequently made this appointment, at a cost of £55, but am wondering why this service is no longer available at my local GP practice when others offer it and what you are meant to do if you would struggle to pay £55? I know it seems quite a simple thing, but the resulting deafness is frightening and NHS Inform direct you to your GP to get it checked out if you are experiencing difficulties which it seems is inaccurate information.
