"Missing notes"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as the patient),

Our family moved from England to Scotland three years ago.

Our new GP requested our medical notes from our previous surgeries, who confirm that they complied with the requests.

Our GP practice has not yet received the notes.

On trying to follow up, I was informed that only the medical practice can do this.

When they tried, they were told that for GDPR reasons, as they are not us, and no information could be given to them.

It is imperative that these notes be found and passed on to our GP.

Who can help us to do this?

Hello, NotesNightmare,

Thank you for reaching out and I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you have been facing with regards to the transfer of your patient record. Unfortunately I am limited in how I can help, GPs are independent contractors with their own feedback systems in place. To resolve this issue you would be best reaching out directly to your local practice manager to discuss how to take forward communication with your old practice in England.

I have had a look for more information on the process of notes transfer and the below link to NHS Inform may be of some use.

https://www.nhsinform.scot/care-support-and-rights/nhs-services/doctors/transfer-of-your-gp-health-records#how-your-health-records-are-stored

Another avenue for support would be your local Patient Advice and Support Service team that can be reached via https://www.cas.org.uk/pass or 0800 028 2816. They work to provide advice and support on a range of patients rights issues to people across Scotland.

I hope the above information is helpful.

Kind Regards

Paul
