After my son was diagnosed with ADHD I realised I too had got the same thing. I asked for a referral from the GP which was passed on. I was then told it was a 2 year waiting list.
Having had my life being massively affected in ways I was now understanding I changed my diet and lifestyle accordingly but this was not enough. We moved just before lock down and I got a new doctor, hoping that Derby hospital would be quicker. I couldn't do anything in lockdown so I borrowed money to try get a private diagnosis. I contacted psychiatry-uk and paid a lot of money to get a diagnosis, medication and follow up appointments. I was lead to believe I could change over to the NHS once diagnosed and on the right medication.
So when I approached my doctor with all the evidence that I had ADHD and that the medication was working, they turned me down! Said they were not happy to prescribe me the medication I needed to help get my life on track. They are now referring me to the mental health team, I'm only assuming now I have to go on a list and start all over again. I'm so so sad as I'm meant to be starting a new job which I've not been able to do for the past year. I'm disgusted with the lack of care and dismissal I have had. Can I ring other doctors to see if they will take me on or is this just across the board and I'll never get the support I need from the NHS?
I'm in desperate need of help and have no idea where to look.
