"Physical illness, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Rhinits, Food Intolerance"

About: Hounslow IAPT West Middlesex University Hospital / Colorectal surgery West Middlesex University Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat West Middlesex University Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I have had irritable bowel  syndrome, since the age of 15. I am now 58.  In recent years I developed rhinitis and more recently food intolerance, which takes about eight to twelve weeks to clear..

Over the last few years my doctor, dietician and hospital appointments have really helped, when looking into the condition and my time doing Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I have also done a few courses with the Recovery College,I am a member of The Wellbeing  Network, in Hounslow and Promoting Health  And Wellbeing in the Borough. All these areas have helped a lot to be in touch with people who feel like me and have become isolated. This means we can come together..

The things that could have been better were I would have really liked some help with food intolerance, as it gives me no quality of life really, work socialising difficult and no benefits, not seen as a disability as sometimes it is. I felt sometimes I was going around in a circle, not really getting to where I needed to be, an improvement in daily health and after being referred signed off quickly. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy was very good.

Thank you for your feedback.

We are glad you have been able to access different services provided by West London Trust. We are particularly pleased to hear that cognitive-behavioural therapy was helpful as our service is expanding to meet the needs of people with long-term conditions and common mental health problems. We hope you can continue to benefit from the techniques you learnt in therapy.

We wish you all the best for the future

Dr Annabelle Norman
