"Very poor care ward 46 GRI"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

I had been admitted to ward 46. Unfortunately i was very ill with Covid. As a breast cancer patient i brought all relevant meds with me.

I quite seriously ill with Covid19 i was in a six bed room alone. The toilet was at the opposite end of the room to me. I was on 24 hr oxygen. By the time evening came i asked if i could use a commode as i was struggling to get to the bathroom. I was refused and “wheeled” in a chair which still left me with no oxygen and really struggling.

Through the night i asked again for a commode... i was informed by 2 auxiliary staff that no i was not allowed a commode as i was covid! I was offered the chair i refused as i felt i couldn't go that far without oxygen.... eventually and with complaints that it would need cleaned before leaving the room again i got to use one. The next day i was Moved to HDU put on Cpap and a catheter inserted...

today i am back in ward 46.... i have raised my concerns with two nurses to be told  we have had a lot of bank shift. now im sure there must be a rota of whom was working, what area they were working in ... none of this information was offered to me. An extremely disappointing experience and frustrating that when looking to ask whom this may have been no support from the ward staff.

Dear Shar1,

I was very disappointed to read of your experience of care within ward 46 of Glasgow Royal Infirmary. This does not reflect the standard of care we strive to deliver to all of our patients and I would like to apologise to you for this.

I will raise this with the lead nurse and senior charge nurse. Further information will be required from you to confirm your details and someone will be back in touch with you.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and provide us with this feedback.

Your sincerely,

John Stuart.

Chief Nurse

Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
